Musician - Bassist - Educator
Musician and educator Lizzie Burns is an experienced and sought after bassist and chamber musician who performs in chamber orchestras, continuo sections, rhythm sections, and new music ensembles. She is a member of The Knights and A Far Cry, a roster artist of The Orchestra of St Luke’s, and is on faculty at the Hartt School of Music, Montclair State University, and the Mannes Conservatory at The New School. She is a regular performer with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, International Contemporary Ensemble, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, East Coast Chamber Orchestra, St Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the New York City Ballet Orchestra. Lizzie is energized by collaborations with composers and has worked with George Lewis, Julia Wolfe, Caroline Shaw, Andy Akiho, Jörg Widmann, and Henry Thredgill among many others, and has been presented as a soloist for contemporary double bass repertoire including works by Jacob Druckman, Elliot Carter, John Cage, and Mario Davidovsky. As a historical bassist she plays with the Handel + Haydn Society, Tafelmusik Baroque, and the Trinity Baroque Orchestra. She has recorded with soloists Edgar Meyer, Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, and Pekka Kuusisto; popular artists Jon Batiste, Phoebe Bridgers, Ingrid Michaelson, and Wye Oak; and for popular motion picture soundtracks and record labels including Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Masterworks, Naxos, and New Amsterdam.
